Finally ending the convention high.
Apparently it only takes 3 days to get off a convention high. I don’t know what it is about them but between a sleep schedule being reconfigured and just an overall energy level shift it took a bit to be able to get back to “normal” (not sure if it is entirely a good thing). My only disappointment is that I didn’t manage to take many photos but the best of the lot came from a quick little photo shoot with Black Widow, however they still need some editing:

Adventures in Costuming Part 3: Welcome To The Show
Well, my first costuming at a convention experience is complete and it was an amazing ride (I have the sore muscles to prove it). I’ll admit I never really understood why people spent so much time making costumes just to wear them at conventions like WonderCon until I tried it, and what started out as a learning tool and experiment became a pretty amazing time.

Adventures In Costuming Part 2: The Quest for Skillz
So as I mentioned earlier I decided to try my hand at costuming and my first event would be WonderCon 2012. (happening the days I’m typing this no less.) Anywho, so I mentioned the boots in the last post but the bulk of the costume still needed to be sourced. I was actually going to try to match as close as I could to my friend’s S.H.I.E.L.D. suit which is more or less a flight suit with a few adornments, but unfortunately the flight suit had been discontinued many months ago and buying the same one was impossible. So after scouring surplus stores in Hollywood, Burbank and Silver Lake I found this one which wasn’t really perfect but had a few things about it that made it better than the others.

Adventures In Costuming Part 1: The Boots
So for the last 7 days or so I’ve been more or less rushing to put a costume together for WonderCon this weekend. Why a costume you ask? Well as much as I chortle at certain “cosplay” pictures I have seen far more well done costumes that simply make me agape and impressed. Also, through a very random set of occurrences over the last few years (but isn’t this always how it goes) I’ve acquired a few friends that are pretty stellar at making costumes. So being on my constant quest to improve and gather new skills and refine old ones I decided to give it a try.
After spending 2 days trying to source a decent base garment in pretty much every surplus store in Los Angeles I finally found one, however the other “major” part of this piece was white almost knee height boots. Not surprisingly pretty hard to find a pair of these let alone a set my size. So after spending the better part of yet another day gathering some other odds and ends I went into Halloween Town, my local year ‘round Halloween shop and picked a pair of black captain costume boots. Halloween Town seems to carry a nice assortment of your average off the rack Halloween costumes and then a handful of one-off accessories like these boots.
